Jillian's Light Shines On
Protecting Innocent Lives

Jillian was a vibrant soul with a promising future, and her untimely death has left a void in the hearts of those who knew her and the community at large. Our "Justice for Jillian" project aims to protect innocent lives from being taken through preventable violence. Through advocacy of common sense, non-political public safety initiatives and legislative reforms, Rae of Light seeks to ensure Jillian''s tragedy does not happen to anyone else.

About Jillian

Jillian Rae Ludwig was a bright light in the world. Her warm smile, kindness, and exceptional musical talent will be remembered by all who knew her.

On November 7, 2023, while our for an afternoon jog in a community park near her college campus in Nashville, TN, Jillian was struck by a stray bullet and tragically passed away the next day. She was only 18 years old and just a few months into her college experience.

Although she had many interests and achievements, Jillian was most passionate about music. Her love of music was evident at a very young age.  While starting with vocal instruction, Jill learned to play various instruments including saxophone, oboe, piano, guitar and bass.  She was a member of three rock bands as a singer, guitar, and bass player. Jill also performed solo at venues around Jersey Shore and was also very involved in her high school bands and with music ministries at church.

At age 17, she started her own project called “Playing it Forward” where she would perform at local establishments to raise funds to donate back to those in need within the musical community she loved. Jillian became a music teacher herself at Lakehouse Music Academy in Asbury Park, NJ, where she had studied, and upon high school graduation, she went on to study Music Business at Belmont University in Nashville, TN. She had big dreams of having a career in the music industry, as a recording artist and/or producer.

Jillian’s family started the Rae of Light Foundation to keep her memory and her spirit alive and to help others in her name. We strive to follow her example and “Play It Forward” in her honor.

Jillian Rae Ludwig

A creative soul whose voice can still be heard

Jillian keeps shining her light through this original song, “How Long” that she left us with. Her family found this previously unreleased song she had created on her phone and her friends at Lakehouse Recording Studios, along with some of her bandmates, took it into the studio and helped to make this recording and music video for us. It is truly a gift and a treasure.
